This update directly addresses the emerging trend of AI tools being abused for link building. Google's algorithm team stated that the Penguin algorithm has been updated with the ability to detect AI-generated backlink patterns. The main signals it identifies include: large volumes of similar anchor text patterns, abnormal spikes in backlink growth over short periods, and link sources that lack real traffic.
