Tutorial: Setting Up and Optimizing Your Google Business Profile from Scratch
This tutorial walks you through creating and fully optimizing a Google Business Profile from the ground up.
Step 1: Create Your Profile
Go to business.google.com and sign in with your Google account. Click Add your business to Google. Enter your business name and category. Choose whether you have a physical location customers can visit. Enter your business address or define your service area. Add your phone number and website URL. Complete verification.
Step 2: Complete Basic Information
Add your business hours for each day. Set special hours for holidays. Add a description up to 750 characters with key services and local keywords. Select all applicable attributes.
Step 3: Upload Photos
Add photos in this order: Logo cover photo exterior interior team photos and product photos. Upload a minimum of 10 photos to start.
Step 4: Add Services and Products
Add service groups then individual services with descriptions and prices. For retail create product collections. Use keyword-rich descriptions.
Step 5: Enable Communication Features
Turn on messaging. Write an automated welcome message. Enable booking if applicable. Set up call history.
Step 6: Create Your First Posts
Create an announcement post. Create an offer post. Add an event post. Each post should include a compelling image and clear call to action. Plan at least one new post per week.
Step 7: Add Questions and Answers
Add at least 5 frequently asked questions with detailed answers.
Step 8: Set Up Review Management
Create a process for requesting reviews. Prepare response templates. Set up notifications. Plan to respond within 24 hours.
Step 9: Verify Your Information
Double-check all information is accurate. Verify your NAP matches your website and other directories.
Step 10: Monitor and Maintain
Check your profile weekly. Respond to reviews and questions. Create new posts regularly. Update hours for holidays. Add new photos monthly. Monitor insights.
